Who owns Lenovo
Lenovo started in Beijing in 1984 as Legend, founded by Liu Chuanzhi and a small team of engineers. It became a genuinely global brand in 2005, when it acquired IBM's personal computer division, and with it the ThinkPad name and reputation.
Legend Holdings remains Lenovo's controlling shareholder today, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences also holding a stake. Worth knowing, though it's a normal ownership structure for a company this size, not a red flag on its own.

Lenovo splits its laptops into three clear tiers, and knowing which one you're looking at matters more than the specific model number. IdeaPad, the line every product on this page belongs to, is the budget-friendly consumer range: built for everyday tasks like browsing, office work and streaming, not heavy workloads.
ThinkPad is Lenovo's business flagship, carrying IBM's old reputation for build quality and keyboard feel. Legion is the gaming line, built around stronger graphics hardware. Snapdragon and Copilot+ PC: the one thing to check before buying
Copilot+ PC is a Microsoft hardware certification, not a Lenovo feature: it requires a fast enough onboard AI chip, 16GB RAM minimum, and Windows 11's newer AI features built in. Two of the laptops on this page carry it, both built around Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chip, which uses ARM architecture rather than the traditional Intel or AMD chips most Windows laptops run.
The practical upshot: most everyday software runs fine through Microsoft's Prism emulation layer, which translates standard Windows apps to work on the ARM chip.
